About The Presidio Dialogues

How We Got Our Name

For over four years, beginning in October, 2000, The Presidio Dialogues hosted public meetings for "conversations for conscious business" in The Presidio, now part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and the U.S. National Park System. The Presidio's new purpose is to house organizations dedicated to global community and sustainability. In contrast to its history as a military garrison, The Presidio now stands for sustainability, global community and diversity. Among the organizations which call The Presidio home are the Social Venture Network, the State of the World Forum, The Pachamama Alliance, Presidio World College and the United Religions Initiative.

In January 2005, The Presidio Dialogues moved downtown to join Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center. As a project of Saybrook, The Presidio Dialogues continues to offer generative dialogues open to the public on the fourth Tuesday monthly. Says former president of Saybrook, Maureen O'Hara, "We believe that human consciousness is an emergent process, and that our capacity to make meaning from our experience evolves through transformative dialogue. Providing spaces where such transformative dialogue may occur is at the core of the Saybrook mission."
